Email us at help@pilastudios.com. A person reads every message. If you are reporting a record that looks wrong, include the brand or the barcode and we will check it against the source.
Scanning
The camera will not read the barcode
- Fill more of the frame with the barcode and hold steady for a second — the scanner waits for several frames to agree before it accepts a read, which is what stops it reporting the wrong digits.
- Flatten the packaging. Curved labels on tins and bottles are the most common failure.
- Move out of direct glare. A bright reflection across the bars defeats any scanner.
- You can always type the number instead. Open Search and enter the digits underneath the barcode.
“We don’t have this one yet”
That message means exactly what it says: the barcode is not in our database. It does not mean the product is unknown to us or that anything went wrong.
Bueno will not guess at a likely owner to fill the screen, so a product we have not researched shows nothing rather than something plausible. Every miss is logged so the gap can be filled, and scanning it is genuinely the most useful thing you can do about it.
Coverage is strongest in food and drink, and thinner in household and personal care, because the public barcode databases are.
The Bueno score
What the number means
A score out of 100 summarising a company’s documented public record — what government agencies have on file, and what the company itself chooses to publish. It is built from four categories: labor and wages, environmental record, safety and recalls, and transparency.
It is not an ethics rating, and it is not our opinion of a company. It shows you the record, with a source you can open for every finding, and leaves the judgment to you.
Why does this company have no score?
Because nobody has assessed it yet. Companies are researched one at a time, by hand, from primary documents — there is no algorithm filling in the blanks, and an unassessed company has no score rather than a low one.
A brand usually inherits the score of the company that owns it, so scanning a small brand often shows the record of the parent that runs its supply chain. The app says whose record it is showing.
An empty category is not a zero
Where a category has no data it is left out of the average rather than counted as zero. Counting it would turn our research backlog into a finding about the company, which would be unfair and untrue.
Something looks wrong
Ownership changes, and sometimes we are behind. Tell us and we will fix it — report a record, or use Report a wrong record in the app.
It helps enormously if you include the brand name or the barcode, what the app told you, and what you believe is correct. Every ownership claim in Bueno carries a citation, so we can check yours against ours.
Accounts
Do I need one?
No. Scanning, search and every ownership record work without an account. An account exists so that a Bueno Premium subscription follows you to a new phone.
I did not get the confirmation email
- Check the spam folder first.
- Confirm the address was typed correctly — the app cannot resend to an address that does not exist.
- Still nothing after a few minutes? Email us and we will confirm the account by hand.
Deleting your account
Open the menu in the top right of the home screen, then Delete account. It removes the account and its subscription record from our servers immediately and cannot be undone.
Your scan history is not part of your account — it lives on the phone — so deleting the account does not touch it. Clear it separately with Clear scan history, or by deleting the app.
Bueno Premium
What it includes
The score’s full breakdown — every category and the evidence underneath it — plus unlimited search and unlimited scan history. Scanning, the company behind a product, the ownership chain and its sources, and the score itself are free and always will be.
Why are there six prices?
Every price unlocks exactly the same Premium. The amount is simply how much of the research you choose to carry. There is no higher tier with more features in it.
Managing or cancelling
Subscriptions are billed by Apple, so they are cancelled in your Apple Account rather than in Bueno: Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone, or apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. The app’s Manage or cancel button opens the same screen.
Cancelling stops the renewal; Premium stays on until the end of the period you have already paid for.
I paid and Premium is not on
- Tap Restore purchases on the Premium screen.
- Check you are signed into the same Apple Account that made the purchase.
- Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, not by us — we never see your payment details.
- If none of that works, email us with the date of purchase and we will help.
Privacy
Your scan history is written to your phone and never uploaded. There is no advertising, there are no trackers, and there is no third-party analytics in the app. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
